We've spent four nights in Cavendish in Victoria and Max has travelled into North Hamilton PS to complete his year 3 NAPLAN tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and today. Max coped brilliantly with being in a strange school, and they were just wonderful. It was very sweet - we took some chocolates and a card to the teacher who had looked after him and Max said very earnestly to her "oh, I've written down my blog address in case you want to read it". Nice Mum moment there!
Max is having a wonderful time on this trip and is coping beautifully with anything thrown at him. Harry has found things a bit harder and still sometimes talks in a baby voice and cries more than he ever did as a 2 or 3 year old. He talks about wanting to go home and be in his bed and that he is missing his friends...
I'm finding it hard at times too. I'm looking forward to getting to Melbourne and catching up with some friends and family, and not having to trek in the dark and cold to take a shower. I'm having a wonderful time with all the amazing things we are seeing and doing though. I think that the nomadic gypsyish lifestyle really suits Trevor and Max and doesn't come so naturally to me or to Harry. We're still enjoying it though!
In between Max's NAPLAN tests we have visited the Southern Grampians - between Mt Sturgeon and Mt Abrupt. What magic rocks!! We drove past a house that was situated between the two - what a block to have! We nosed around the town of Dunkeld which was very pretty but kept driving back to look at the mountains. The Grampians are a really large range - I didn't realise how big they were!
We have also explored 'Nigretta Falls' and 'Wannon Falls' - we all loved hearing the power of the water. Nature is marvellous indeed. We've seen so many contrasts on this trip, from the huge Balingup trees, then the starkness of some of the Nullabor, to the intense waves at the Great Australian Bight, to calm, still waters at Baird Bay and then the remnants of volcanic eruptions here.... and we're only part way around.
We spent a fair whack of time in Hamilton today. Washing clothes, drying clothes (ahhh!! a clean, dry towel at last!!), spending money at the wonderful Aldi store to stock our shelves.
We move on to Warrnambool tomorrow...

Well done Max. Good to hear that you were able to go to North Hamilton Primary School for NAPLAN. The rock formations at the Grampians would have been very interesting. I'm sure you'll all have lots to talk about when we see ALL the photos!
