The City of Melbourne

Melbourne 2011-05-24 002Today the four of us caught a tram into Melbourne. The trams in Melbourne, as well as being very well used and handy, are so unique and give Melbourne a wonderful point of difference. We saw a real variety of people on the tram – it is interesting to imagine what is happening in the life of a person based on how they present themselves…

We started to walk around the CBD, particularly looking at the architecture which is so rich in detail. Harry asked if we could take a look inside a particular building and we’re so glad he did. It was the ANZ bank which has been beautifully restored or perhaps has simply been incredibly well maintained. The photos don’t do justice to how wonderful the paintwork and detail are. The detail in the paintwork was astonishing!Melbourne 2011-05-24 006Melbourne 2011-05-24 007Melbourne 2011-05-24 010Melbourne 2011-05-24 011

Soon after this I left Harry, Max and Trevor to a more vigorous wander around, while I went for my own more leisurely sojourn. This included visiting ‘The Block’ arcade, recommended to me by my friend Emily. This arcade has so much history and a wonderful looking teahouse. I didn’t eat here but I sure would like to one day.

After wandering around for a while I walked up to the sensational Vic Markets. There was so much to look at and choose from!Lots of fresh fruit, veges, meat, smallgoods and then heaps of clothing, footwear and other things. It reminded me of when Mum, Dad and I used  to regularly visit Fremantle Markets in the 1980s, except of course, these ones were much bigger.

I caught a tram back to Sharon’s in the afternoon, soon to be joined by my boys, full of excitement about their day with Dad!
