Detouring to Dorrigo, on our way to Tamworth

After leaving Thora this morning, we found a visitor’s gem in the town of Dorrigo. What first grabbed me was when small waterfalls passed my window as we were driving along. Many of the roads in Victoria and NSW regions have steep sides, but these ones had water flowing down. The water ran under the road and out the other side. Unfortunately we had driven by before I had the chance to take photos, and these weren’t the sort of roads we could easily stop and turn around on, even when not laden with a caravan.

We were driving around ten o’clock in the morning and there was still a steady fog. To me, some of these photos look more like they were taken several hours earlier.

We found the local Skywalk easily and it gave a fabulous view out across the tree tops.

It was fiercely cold, but when we were packing up the caravan this morning, Harry splashed about in the mud so much his jumper was dirty and drenched. So he spent most of the Skywalk snuggled close to his Dad.

We spent a lot of time looking through the centre’s interpretive centre, which gave us lots of information about the flora and fauna of the area. The indigenous people who lived here for thousands of years prior to European settlement were the Gumbaynggirr tribe. There were several beautiful mosaics made that included the Gumbaynggirr word ‘Giinagay’ meaning ‘Welcome’.

We found Dorrigo’s ‘Dangar Falls’ easily after a short drive. Even though we have seen a lot of waterfalls on our trip, I am always impressed by the power and beauty of them.
