I woke this morning to the many magpies chortling in the trees and roosters serenading the day at Broomehill. I was up and about just after 6am and realised that it has been a very long time since I enjoyed the dawn. The particular light that streams through the trees and buildings as the sun rises… the slight chill that is in the air that promises a wonderful, clear day ahead and later the warm breath of the early morning sun.
While the rest of my family has an early morning cuddle punctuated by squeals and tickles, I’ve been reading outside and have been visited by magpies. My favourite came within two feet of me and I could clearly see his face and throat as he warbled the different tunes that magpies do. It was like he came to talk just to me!
It is now almost 8am and Max and Harry are riding their bikes again, and soon are going to the skate park down the road to ride some more. The best thing about our trip so far is that the boys are up and moving instead of constantly wanting to be “on screen”…

I love the sound of magpies !! that would have been a lovely place to read your book. I must go and read outside EARLY too !!
Sounds like bliss Liz. Keep up the lovely writing Nic xx
I love the sound of the magpies singing, but my favourite bird would have to be the crows and their cawing and the way they hop instead of walking! I miss seeing your faces at school each day. Tell those boys not to grow up too much cos I wont recognize them when they get back. XOXO
Hey Liz, Sounds like you are having a fantastic time. You are giving me itchy feet :)
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Enjoy. xx
